This week marks 10 years since our first music video parody debuted, so we couldn’t let the holiday season pass by without the debut of our latest music video, “Renovating,” a tribute to Dua Lipa’s chart-topping hit, “Levitating.”

When Kendall Busby, the director of marketing who took over my role earlier this year, asked me to help brainstorm ideas for a music video to release before the end of 2022, I wasn’t sure if my creative juices would flow. We gathered in the conference room and started searching the Billboard charts for inspiration. When I saw “Levitating,” the spark ignited. There really was no other choice. We’ve literally been renovating Jordan Winery since the year before the pandemic, and demolition of our lobby had just begun. The lyrics came to me quickly the next morning; the song ready to be recorded within a couple of hours.

Read on to view the lyrics and credits for all the employees and crew who brought Jordan Winery “Renovating” to life in just a few days’ time. It’s the perfect way to cap off our 50th anniversary year.

“Renovating” – Dua Lipa Music Video Parody

If you wanna build away with me, I know a winery

And we got tools to make it fly

It’s time for demolition and we fall into a rhythm

Where the hammers don’t stop all night

Drywall in the sky, drywall in my eyes

Priming just the way we like

If you’re feeling like you need some Jordan hospitality

You caught us at a crummy time

You want me, we want you, daily

But see this crew, we’re renovating

The Golden Year, we’re celebrating

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

We got you, floodlights, you’re my spotlight

We need you all day, come on, build with me

I’m renovating

You, floodlight, you’re my spotlight (you’re the starlight)

We need you all day, come on, build with me

I’m renovating

We one of the greatest

Ain’t no debatin’ on it

Steadily elevating

We heavily dedicated

To put in the time

To get it how we want it

Full remodel

We ain’t just paintin’

46th in the world

The celebration is waitin’

Number one is the goal

So we out here renovatin’

See what they all out here doin’

They got the earplugs in

Ain’t no point in talkin’ to ‘em

Uh uh

It go left foot

Right foot

Renovatin’

Outside with the EV charging stations

I had to lace the boots up due to safety regulations

And open all the windows for the proper ventilation

So dress up

Roll out for the day

Can’t wait to catch up

And put some cheese on your plate

So you should head up

Please schedule your stay

Sooner the better

And see the changes we made

FOR YOU!

Fifty years of winemaking, we feel it in our energy

We see us written up five stars

We can change whenever, so let’s do it now or never, baby

Our unveiling is not too far

Glitter in the sky, glitter in my wine

Redesigning just the way we like

This feels like it’s forever, every time we build together

But whatever, we get breaks with dogs

You want me, we want you, daily

But see this crew, we’re renovating

The Golden Year, we’re celebrating

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

You, floodlight, you’re my spotlight (you’re the starlight)

We need you all day, come on, build with me

I’m renovating

You, floodlight, you’re my spotlight (you’re the starlight)

We need you all day, come on, build with me

I’m renovating

You can see the new Jordan next year

You can see the new Jordan next year

Silky wines you’ll taste with us in time

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

I’m renovating

You can see the new Jordan next year

You can see the new Jordan next year

Silky wines you’ll taste with us in time

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

I’m renovating

But there’s more to this story than a catchy tune to pair with Jordan Cabernet Sauvignon on #WineWednesday.

It’s crazy to think an entire decade has passed since PSY’s “Gangnam Style” released and made the Guinness World Records as the first YouTube video to hit 1 billion views. “Gangnam Style” is often credited as the first music video to go internationally viral, and it certainly inspired us to hop aboard that bus. With the premiere of the first Jordan Winery dance video, “Gangnam Style in Wine Country,” in December of 2012, we blazed a proverbial trail. Jordan won Wine Enthusiast 2014 American Winery of the Year, in part due to our video marketing, as well as several Wine Blog Awards and “Best Music Video” at the 2016 International Wine Film Festival. We kept releasing a new humorous video every year to show a lighter side of our serious winemaking chops—and continued to be humbled by the awards received, especially those for “Grape Thrills”—our first parody music video where I wrote lyrics to make the hit our own, a cheeky wine harvest rendition of Sia’s “Cheap Thrills.”

The last few years have been challenging for me, personally and creatively, but it feels good to know I could get my writing groove back. Thank you, Kendall, for believing in me.

But I can only take credit for dance song lyrics, not the rap. Matt and Timmy Spence in the facilities department really wanted Kendall to add a remake of DaBaby’s “Levitating” rap to our music video—Timmy wrote the lyrics before I had the chance. Kendall worked on the refrain lyrics to piece it all together. Erin Malone, from Lightspeed Films (who used to work at Jordan in the marketing department) recorded Timmy the morning of shoot day and spliced in his rap seamlessly. It was truly a team effort.

Now that I’ve stepped down as marketing director, it’s time for me to start a new chapter. I’m so glad to say goodbye with another humorous Jordan music video parody—but this is not farewell. Starting next year, I’ll be consulting for Jordan part-time, which means I’ll be able to spend more time sharing Jordan stories on this winery blog and Wine Country Table. I look forward to entertaining you with blog posts much more often than I have these last five years.

Cheers to the last 10 years of Jordan Winery music videos and to the next 50 years of Jordan wines. Here’s to many more. Follow the related blog links to watch our other music video parodies.
