The fine tannins, firm acidity and rich cherry fruit characters found in 1980 Jordan Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon have made this one of our longest-lived vintages.
The 1980 vintage was a long and cool growing season. Grapes were harvested in late September and early October, allowing for extended hang time and therefore incredibly intense flavors. The intensity of this vintage is also marked by the huge tannins. The soft silky tannins of the Merlot fruit were essential in finding a harmonious balance in this vintage.
Our 1980 vintage still flaunts ruby-red color and texture for its age and tastes 15 years younger than it is. Hints of tea leaf, cherry, strawberry, prunes and cooking spice herbs on the nose. Some delicate red fruits and spices still linger on the soft palate, where the acid and tannins are still alive. The 750mL-format bottles should be enjoyed now. Magnums are at their peak, and the 3L and 6L formats are ready to open and will certainly appeal to those who enjoy aged wines.
