THE VINTAGE
Ideal spring weather provided for optimal fertilization of our Chardonnay in the Russian River Valley, yielding a very even crop. Cool, moderate weather prevailed through much of the growing season. As harvest approached, a warming trend elevated sugar levels. As predicted, the window for picking was very small, creating a sense of urgency in the vineyard. Our entire crop of Russian River Valley Chardonnay was harvested in just ten days. Because of the uniform maturity of clusters, the resulting wine has great balance and finesse, offering deep layers of fresh green apples with a crisp, mineral finish.
THE WINE
In our cellar, free-run quality juice was extracted from the cool, handpicked grapes using our new, technologically advanced Willmes press. Among other benefits, this press extracts juice at very low pressure in a short period of time; the result is an ultra premium quality of juice to ferment that is very low in bitter and astringent tannins.

Fermentation occurred in small French oak barrels (35% new) and aged with extended sur lie contact for three months to add an understated, creamy texture to the mid-palate. Only 69% of the wine was allowed to undergo malolactic fermentation, permitting the wine to retain its natural, crisp acidity - a hallmark of Russian River Valley fruit. This acidity contributes to the mineral flintiness and clean finish of the wine.

The citrus and mineral bouquet has delicate aromas of crisp green apple, kiwi, honey and lightly toasted oak. The wine delivers a lively and complex flavor profile, with pear, Fuji apple, quince and limestone, balanced with a subtle framework of toasted oak. These refined notes contribute to a seamless expression of fruit aromas, flavor and long finish.
THE PEOPLE
Tom Jordan is the owner, founder and the visionary behind Jordan Vineyard & Winery. His desire to make world-class wines in California brought him to Sonoma County in 1972, where he purchased the 1,500 acres that make up the Jordan Vineyard & Winery estate.

The vineyard team is led by Vineyard Manager, Mark Bailey, and Viticulturist, Dana Grande.

Rob Davis joined Jordan Winery as enologist in 1976, after graduating from the University of California at Davis. Rob was made Winemaker in 1977. For 19 years, Rob worked with the legendary Andre Tchelistcheff, who served as Consulting Winemaker until 1994. The 2003 harvest marked Rob's 28th year at Jordan Winery.
THE 2003 CHARDONNAY - RUSSIAN RIVER VALLEY
The 2003 Chardonnay is Winemaker Rob Davis's homage to Meursault: The gravelly soils and cool temperatures of our growers' sites in the Russian River Valley enable him to make a wine with fresh citrus and pear flavors, rich mid-palate texture and crisp acidity on the finish.
